Ambassador Seijoong Kwon of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea attended the 181st Indian Arrival Day Commemoration held in Siparia, the constituency of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, on May 30 (Sat.).
The event commemorated the arrival of the first group of 225 Indian indentured laborers to Trinidad and Tobago in 1845. Through hard work, perseverance, and resilience in the face of numerous challenges, the Indian community has made significant contributions to the country’s democracy, economic development, and multicultural society. Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, herself a descendant of Indian immigrants, stands as a testament to the achievements and pride of the Indo-Trinidadian community.
On the occasion of the event, Ambassador Kwon conveyed the warm regards of the President of the Republic of Korea to Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar and expressed his hope that Trinidad and Tobago would continue to strengthen its position as a model of unity and social harmony while pursuing sustainable development and prosperity.
