Ambassador Seijoong Kwon paid a visit to Grenada on June 9 and made farewell calls on Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Export Development Joseph Andall, and Minister for Climate Resilience, the Environment and Renewable Energy Kerryne James.
During the meetings, Prime Minister Mitchell expressed his appreciation for the symbolic and substantive cooperation between the two countries, highlighting the issuance of a commemorative postage stamp and the hosting of a celebratory performance to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2024. He also conveyed his expectation for the continued strengthening of the friendly and cooperative relationship between the Republic of Korea and Grenada.
Ambassador Kwon and Minister Andall discussed mutual support in international fora as well as ongoing grant assistance projects. Ambassador Kwon, in particular, requested the Government of Grenada’s support for Judge Jin-Hyun Paik’s candidacy for the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and Minister Andall indicated that the government would give favorable consideration to Korea’s candidate.
Ambassador Kwon also discussed the AI-based Ocean Climate Action Project, in which Korean companies are participating in the Caribbean region, with Minister James. He further requested Grenada’s interest in and cooperation with projects implemented by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in the Caribbean. Minister James expressed her commitment to providing full support and cooperation for these initiatives.
