Embassy of Korea Hosts “Caribbean Energy and Economic Security Dialogue”

DATE
2026-06-24

Ambassador Seijoong Kwon hosted the “Caribbean Energy and Economic Security Dialogue” at the Ambassador’s Residence on June 18 (Thursday), inviting key stakeholders from Trinidad and Tobago’s energy sector.

Participants included Ms. Melanie Chen, Chair of the Caribbean Energy Chamber; Dr. Priya Marajh, interim Chief Executive Officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Energy Chamber; and Ms. Joanna Kazana, United Nations Resident Coordinator.

Ambassador Kwon noted that, as the Republic of Korea relies on imports for the vast majority of its energy needs, energy security and the stability of energy supply chains remain critical national priorities. He also expressed keen interest in energy developments and future prospects in the Caribbean region.

The participants exchanged views on a range of topics, including energy security in the age of AI, energy transition and renewable energy policies, and the outlook for energy development in the Caribbean.

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Trinidad and Tobago will continue to closely monitor energy developments in the Caribbean and work to expand cooperation between Korea and countries in the region.
